Linking pain and pleasure

Sorry for the lack of updates as I've recently been ENGROSSED with Anthony Robbins' book. Reading was the first step, but programming it to my daily life added depth to the words the book conveys. In short, we have to link pleasures to the right things and pain from the wrong things to fuel our motivation & to take control of our destiny. For example, if you're a smoker and you needed to quit smoking, this book actually tells you how. Its a manual for how to program yourself to change and that change is possible!

Lets talk about injuries and its rewards. You probably have found a link here. Injuries and rewards are like apples and oranges. Shirts and pants. You gotta have INJURIES and you gotta have REWARDS. No pain no gain. The problem is PAIN is a PUSH and PLEASURE is a PULL. When you mention the metaphor "no pain no gain" the prominent word here is PAIN, and PAIN pushes you away from the belief and you will resort to NOT doing the exercise if you associate it with pain.

This I found to be true. If you want to motivate people to do something, you can't motivate them by saying if you want to get RESULTS, you have to go through SHIT. You have to motivate them by saying if you want to get RESULTS, you have to be CONSISTENT and FOCUS to get the results. With no mentioning of SHIT or PAIN whatsoever. Clearly, God has PROGRAMMED us in a way to avoid pain at all costs... so we have to TRICK our brain into thinking and focusing on the PLEASURE (the results, long term) rather than the PAIN (temporary, short term) to motivate us to shaping our destinies that we really want!

If there were 2 ABSOLUTES in the universe, it would be pain and pleasure. These 2 develops our mannerisms and behaviours and ultimately shape our lives. Fear is a manifestation of pain and fear immobilises us. Attraction is the manifestation of PLEASURE and attraction PULLS us. Therefore... fear is the opposite of attraction, just as pain is the opposite of pleasure.

So program yourself! Create a positive "SHORTCUT" for the emotions in your head. Injury is not PAIN. Injury is PLEASURE. Skip past the pain part and drill it to your head that the more injuries you sustain the BETTER you come out of it after the body REPAIRS itself. DONE! You have rewired the link between exercise, pain and pleasure! Can you do this with SMOKING? Yes you can!

Anthony Robbins explains in his book that as adults we have created many "shortcuts" and "rules "in our heads and associate it with pain (and pleasure), to the point that we IMMOBILISE ourselves to not doing anything because we try to avoid any kind of pain, or take the LESSER PAIN out as much as possible. Limiting our beliefs and putting us in fear that we don't even know we have deep down. The best part is we make rules without even realising! And everyday our emotions create rules base on situations and experience. Which are sometimes false! Like smoking. Which is why "rewiring" is necessary in order for change to happen.

Thats why some of us is afraid to love, while being afraid puts you into many difficulties if you somehow got into a relationship later in life. We become walking contradictions, we do something YET we are unable to give it our best because of the "shortcuts" that we associate with.

Sometimes we have to UNLEARN what we have learn. When our CUP is FULL, time to take a drink! ;)

The truth is a lot of people have FEARS of many things that they do not even KNOW of cuz they have accepted it into their programming for so long, they have FORGOTTEN about it. To mention it as a FEAR is to RIDICULE them, and they would blame it on lack of time or laziness instead of accepting that they have an IRRATIONAL FEAR of something which shapes their behaviour or distorts their perception. Something that is relatively SAFE to do instead becomes something UNDOABLE. Thats right. Immobilising. Paralyzing. Limiting your BELIEFS. You get the idea.

Laziness is like an OLD CARPET. Its just a cover. When you lift to look underneath, you'd see BUGS scurrying away and dirt that you never even know was there. We have a lot of FEARS to address underneath. We just never LOOKED in a very long time.

How pain & pleasure has shaped our society

One of the things that struck me with what Anthony Robbins had mentioned in one of his earlier books is how we associate between pain and pleasures and shaped our lives based on those pain and pleasures. What he is trying to teach us is how to let our emotions become a tool instead of letting us become a tool of our emotions. Then he went on to say that society has always looked for quick fix solutions to their inconveniences and that majority would avoid any kind of pain to their solution over pleasure.

For example, if you wanted lo lose weight you would have to go through dieting and avoid your favourite foods, and put yourself to go through the gym consistently a few times each week. Immediately, the individual would put off the pain and resort back to their pleasures of eating and not having to go through exercise. This is a preconditioned thinking that the body recognises and straights away take action of pleasure over pain. When you are constantly putting off your short term pains over pleasures you are limiting your potential and possible causing harm to yourself in the long term.

The solution is to trick your body into thinking that the benfits of a long term pleasure are BETTER than the short term ones, and that the short term pains are also pleasures in itself. That is why athletes go to the gym and stay consistent with their workouts, as they derive PLEASURE from their short term pain as it will pay off as PLEASURE in the long term.

Do not shy away from pain. Do not shy away from risks. When you think about it, you associate too much pain with so many things that you could have done, that you are limiting your beliefs and growth potential. It paralyses you. Not the pain itself. But by the references we take the pain from off others as we grow up that we come to a point that we become too overprotected and insecure. Condition yourself to take risks. Condition yourself to take pain in place of long term pleasures and rewards, comrades!

When you can finally morph your PAIN into PLEASURES, you take destiny into your own hands! This is not oversimplification. Our brain cannot differentiate reality from beliefs. So work on those beliefs mechanism to make them FOR YOU not to LIMIT you!

Take it to your playground, savvy?
